We know that AI can revolutionize safety and risk management practices, so at RSS, we have started implementing AI tools behind the scenes to help make your job easier and safer. I want to highlight some of the ways we are beginning to implement AI into our suite of solutions and what that means for our clients.  

You would never know it, but if you use our chemical inventory management solution, you benefit from our SDS aggregator. This Safety Data Sheet (SDS) automated updater works 24/7, searching chemical vendor websites, extracting safety data, and updating safety data sheets in our chemical inventory database that houses millions of chemicals. Before the aggregator, this was a manual process involving seven full-time chemists to research vendor websites, scour through data, review, and verify that the correct SDS was in use. Those same chemists still verify the safety data sheets, but AI does the heavy lifting, processing up to 1500 safety data sheets per month. Prior to the SDS aggregator, the team would process an average of 875 per month. Clients that use our chemical inventory solution can feel confident that the SDS data is accurate, complete, and readily available when a lab member needs it or if OSHA stops by for an inspection.

Whether your organization already uses RSS solutions like Computer Ergonomics or Injury and Illness Reporting (IIR), or is considering their adoption, we've got some exciting developments in store for you!

We're starting to utilize AI to convert all injury data from IIR into a mathematical equation, enabling precise cost calculations down to the dollar for each injury as well as the time the team member will be away from the job down to the day. The calculations provided by AI can inform not only injury cost and leave duration, but also the injury severity and likelihood of reinjury. We are taking the guesswork out of injury forecasting so that organizations can have a return-to-work plan backed by data.

Thanks to AI enhancements to our RSS Computer Ergonomics solution, our clients will soon be able submit a short video of themselves working at their workstation and our AI-driven pose detection will automatically calculate a risk score and send the results to the organization’s designated ergonomist. From there, the ergonomist can rapidly respond to high-risk individuals by assigning proper equipment and providing recommendations, cutting down the likelihood of injury. 

EHS Directors will soon breathe a sigh of relief when they open up reports in RSS. We have started leveraging AI to make some of the most robust reporting capabilities in the industry. We know that thorough reporting using accurate data is integral to your role, so by using a large language model to provide insights into your dashboards, there will be at-a-glance summaries for outstanding items, areas that need follow-up, and a comprehensive view of how your safety programs are performing, all thanks to AI. You can shift your focus towards addressing concerns rather than searching for status updates; it will already be at your fingertips.
