Challenge:

Person typing on a computer with a thoughtAt the onset of COVID-19, medical centers like UCSF Health had an urgent need to implement new Health and Safety protocols for essential employees.

The challenges for Matt Carlson, Administrative Director of Safety, Security & Emergency Management at UCSF Health, were not only to implement protocols such as safe physical distancing, but also to quickly update and manage the protocols as they changed with evolving city and county guidelines. Tracking overall compliance at UCSF once protocols were implemented would be critical to whatever solution he found.

Matt contacted Risk and Safety Solutions and collaborated with the team to quickly implement a safe distancing inspection process using the RSS Inspect solution.

The tool allowed his team to visit over 200 areas in the course of three weeks to ensure that the correct safe distancing control measures were put into place. Today, Matt continues to rely on the analytics dashboard to monitor compliance.

"We’ve been using the inspection tool for a number of years now, in all types of different applications. We are now using it during this state of recovery. As we are increasing patient volumes and bringing more employees back to work, it’s essential that we provide a safe working environment and have a safe distancing protocol in place in this era of COVID-19"

Matt Carlson, Administrative Director of Safety, Security & Emergency Management at UCSF Health.
